DANAEM

The digital archive DANAEM, Dance and Art in the Middle Age, is one of the results of the project Traces and figures of dance in the Middle Age: An iconographic, textual and etnographic corpus in the Iberian Peninsula and its projections in Latin America (FFI2013-42939-P). It aims to contribute to the study of the cultural history of dance in the Iberian Peninsula during the 11th-16th centuries. It is a digital project with a multidisciplinary vocation focused on texts and medieval images dedicated to dance. Through a methodology that is located at the intersection of several disciplines, the researchers of the DANAEM project have systematized, catalogued and studied sources for the study of dance in the long Middle Ages in Spanish kingdoms, where dance had a prominent place, ratified by the frequent references in literary texts, ethical-moral treatises, archival documents and visual testimonies. Of no less importance are the current traces, some of which have been declared World Heritage or are in the process of being so, such as the Patum of Berga, the Dance of the Death of Verges or the Moors and Christians festivals on the peninsula and in America.
